South Korea’s Prime Minister, ruling party leaders, and presidential office advisers were set to hold an emergency meeting at 2 p.m. local time (12 a.m. ET) on Wednesday, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The meeting comes in the wake of President Yoon Suk Yeol’s abrupt reversal of a short-lived martial law decree overnight, which has thrown the country into turmoil and fueled growing calls for his resignation.

It remains unclear whether President Yoon will attend the meeting.

Yoon has faced criticism from across the political spectrum, including members of his own ruling People Power Party. According to Yonhap, the party is reportedly considering demanding the resignation of his entire Cabinet and the dismissal of Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun. Discussions are also underway about whether to call for Yoon's resignation.
